I always takes two. We all heard and were astonished when we learned about another case were a person who had gotten Mesothelioma as a result of working with the material on his job, and now was compensated by his former employer for his suffering as the court issued a ruling accordingly.
A few months back ago an asbestos lawsuit caught the eye of the public. Supposedly, a Georgia based company who had allegedly paid close to $100 million dollars in asbestos settlements is now accusing health care professionals, affiliated testing companies and their lawyers of misconduct.
This was certainly not for the first time that a previously convicted company decided to start a lawsuit themselves, seeking some of the compensation money back it was previously order to pay out to former employees who developed Mesothelioma. In 1995 a huge asbestos manufacturer did try exactly that but after months of fighting in court, it eventually agreed to a confidentiality agreement in order to avoid further charges.
And probably all of us heard of other things, like lawyers bribing doctors or hospital staff members in order to obtain tweaked reports which they could then use in their cases to their favor, too.
Well, this of course is against the law. In order to fully understand the problem, we have to see the whole picture. Approximately 4 out of a 100 former employees who had been working in the asbestos manufacturing industry or in jobs with high exposure to the material, will eventually develop an asbestos induced illness, such as Mesothelioma or lung cancer.
"Mesothelioma cases are a very lucrative enterprise nowadays." That's what I read the other day in an online article. Well, I can see why. $ 52,000 on average is the amount of money that is involved in each claim related to asbestos induced sicknesses.
I know what I'm talking about. I was diagnosed with Renal Cell Carcinoma (kidney cancer) in October of 2009. Seven months before that, my wife receive her breast cancer diagnosis. We are lucky to have relatively good health care insurance plan coverage. However, we still end up with monthly out of pocket expenses that are regularly over $ 4,000.
The reason why I mention this is not to beg for sympathy, but to illustrate how important it is to make sure that the already high costs associated with the treatment of cancers including Mesothelioma, are not increase any further - and this is exactly what happens when greed takes over everything else.
And because of those individuals who by their conduct generate more and more costs for lawyers, court fees, etc., our medical expenses continue to rise. And I had it with that. I can only speak for myself, but I guess you get my point.
The author of this article was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer. On his website he features a blog about best mesothelioma lawyers and provides details on asbestos claims and the huge amounts of money involved.
